CKY Signs With ROADRUNNER RECORDS
December 7, 2006Roadrunner Records has announced the worldwide signing of genre-defying rock outfit CKY. Formed in Pennsylvania in 1998 by Deron Miller (vocals/guitars),Chad I Ginsburg (guitars/vocals) and Jess Margera (drums),CKY's debut album "Vol. 1" surfaced in 1999 on the indie label Volcom Entertainment, and was eventually picked up by Island Def Jam in 2001. The band's first Island Def Jam album and breakthrough "Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild" came in 2002, followed three years later by "An Answer Can Be Found".
"CKY is a massively underrated band," says Roadrunner Senior VP A&R Monte Conner. "Everything about them screams unique, from Deron Miller's dark, melodic vocals and iconoclastic songwriting, to Chad I Ginsburg's cutting-edge production and mix techniques, to their one-of-a-kind guitar sound and rampant use of the Moog synthesizer. They simply sound like no other band I have ever heard. I've known Deron since he was a teenager and have been dying to work with CKY ever since I heard the stunning 'Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild' album. I am honored to finally have the opportunity to do so, with such a forward-thinking band."
Deron Miller shares the enthusiasm: "Roadrunner is one of my all-time favorite labels, so for me this partnership is very inspiring on a personal level and the fans will hear that on our next record."
Adds Jess Margera, "It's seriously an honor to be working with such a legendary rock/metal label like Roadrunner. CKY has had a great relationship with Roadrunner over the years and our signing with them seems long overdue."
"CKY has never had the rep for being an easy band to work with," affirms Chad I Ginsburg. "We've only been honest and best of all, enterf**kintaining! Believe it. That said, Roadrunner, the label with God-sized balls, has decided to take the CKY challenge! God bless 'em! So, that's two laser-sighted entities combined. Legendary. The potential is exciting to say the least. The future is purely for our enjoyment. CKY and RR — let's do this."
CKY's official web site is run by their fans, The CKY Alliance (www.ckyalliance.com),and numbers 250,000 members strong. The band is extremely involved with the site and hence shares a close relationship with their very dedicated fans. Over the years, they have personally answered 9,500 questions from fans on the "Ask CKY" section of the site.
After the addition of new bassist Matt Deis in July 2005, CKY embarked on a rigorous touring cycle which ended this past August following a highly successful European run. After taking a much needed break, CKY has just began the conception and planning process towards what begs to be a highly labor intensive and collaborative effort. Look for new music sometime in 2007.
